The Plenary of the Liberian Senate has mandated it’s committees on State Enterprise and Public Corporation, Judiciary and Concession and Investment to investigate the expiration of a management contract between the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and ESBI Engineering and Facility Management Limited.https://fb.watch/37zBegdoR-/

The decision by the Senate was based on a communication submitted to the Senate’s Plenary Tuesday, January 19, 2021 by Grand Bassa County Senator, Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence.

In the communication, Senator Lawrence indicated that sub-clause 2.2 of the contract document , the commencement date of the said management services contract is January 8, 2018.

Furthermore, she added that the instrument also states in sub-clause 2.3 that “ unless terminated in accordance with clause 24 (Default and Termination), this contact shall be in effect until the third anniversary of the commencement date”.

“ Distinguish Colleagues, the third anniversary of the commencement date of this contract as clearly spelt out in sub-clause 2.3 on the duration of the contract, is January 8, 2021. To the best of my reasonable recollection, this contract has not been renewed and or extended in compliance with Liberian law” Senator Lawrence added.
The Grand Bassa Senator then pleaded with colleagues to immediately site both the management of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to provide relevant answers to that august body as to why they are illegally operating with ESBI Engineering and Facility Management Limited without valid contract.
