In a communication addressed to the plenary of the Liberian Senate on Tuesday January 19, 2021, Lofa County Senator, Steve Zargo has attributed the abandonment of the Lofa road project as a deliberate action on the part of the central government.
“I will consider it as a deliberate action on the part of government” Sen. Zargo said.
“Lofa is stable but is unsatisfying, ” Lofa is stable but, is unhappy” he added.
“Unlike in other counties, we broke growns for the Lofa road, the former Deputy Speaker stated that bulk of it is on the Bong County side. The people of Lofa in readiness and anticipation, have been doing everything they can do to ensure that the road reaches Lofa. As I speak, No”! The Lofa County Senator stated.
“The latest information reaching us is that all of the earth moving equipments have been removed and that work has come to a standstill”. Sen. Zargo lamented.
He added that his county needs the attention of central government when it come to their roads.
Sen. Zargo stated that in the midst of all of these challenges, the people of Lofa are still producing surplus of food but are unable to take them to Monrovia. “The food are spoiling” Zargo said. He stressed a need for the continuation of the Lofa road project as when it is done, the entire country stands to benefit and not only Lofa.
He named other challenges as the closure of the only Bank in the County, ECO BANK, the ongoing closure of the Current Lutheran Hospital in Zorzor, the dispute over parts of the land on which the only Public High School in Voinjama is situated which is been claimed by a business woman, a Sierra Leonian nationel, for which information filtering on his desk suggests a planned demonstration is scheduled to take place on the 20th of January, 2021in Voinjama amongst others and pleaded with colleagues to instruct the Ministry of Internal Affairs to quickly intervene.
